    VARP Silica Awareness Training Webinar presented by Insure Compliance

    **Silica Hazard Prevention Training**

    OSHA requires employers to protect their employees from known hazards in the workplace, including exposure to respirable crystalline silica. Silica Hazard Prevention training teaches employees to recognize the risks associated with silica exposure by identifying the symptoms and preventive measures. Employees must be able to implement safety practices and provide prompt first aid to those who are experiencing silica-related health issues. This webinar explains the causes and symptoms of silica-related illnesses and what to do if they occur at a job site.

    This webinar will cover:

    - General information on Silica Hazards

    - An explanation of the causes of Silica Exposure

    - Guidance on Silica Exposure prevention

    - Emergency response procedures

    After completing the training, your employees will be able to:

    - Identify silica exposure signs and symptoms

    - Provide first aid for silica-related health issues

    - Work safely in environments where silica dust may be present

    **Regulations covered:**

    - General Duty Clause- Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (the "General Duty Clause") requires an employer to furnish to its employees: "employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees..."

    - OSHA's Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard for Construction (29 CFR 1926.1153) and General Industry (29 CFR 1910.1053) which set forth permissible exposure limits (PELs) and requirements for exposure assessment, respiratory protection, housekeeping, medical surveillance, and training.

    VARP Explanation of EMOD (Experience Modification Rate) Webinar presented by Insure Compliance

    This training explains how the Experience Modification Rate (EMR) affects insurance premiums and emphasizes the financial benefits of maintaining a safe work environment. This training will also review Return to Work programs, and triage services to help reduce impact on the EMOD score.

    Volunteers needed! Volunteers are needed to man the 17 stations. Training and lunch is provided.

    About the tournament

    This sporting clays event is designed for both experienced shooters and novices. Proceeds support VARP’s operations. Companies are encouraged to sponsor generously and use the event to entertain clients and reward their star employees.

    The tournament will consist of 5-person teams, 100 targets per person, and 16 stations plus a turkey shoot contest. Registration is limited to 17 teams. Because team registrations are limited, preference will be given to teams with at least one VARP member. Your team is not confirmed until your payment is received by VARP. If you do not receive a receipt, your team is not considered reserved.

    Boxed lunches are provided for teams and volunteers. Each team will get 1 golf cart and entry into the Turkey Shoot Contest for each shooter. Plaques will be given for the “Top Gun” and the top 3 teams.

    Tentative Schedule

    10:50am: Trapper training for volunteers

    11am-noon: Lunch and registration

    11:50 AM: Mandatory safety meeting for all shooters

    Noon: Tournament begins

    Immediately Following Tournament: Awards & Raffle Drawing

    Join VARP and your fellow roofing professionals from around the country at NRCA's Roofing Day in DC, the only federal advocacy event dedicated solely to the roofing inudstry!

    This year’s event will take place at the Grand Hyatt Washington on April 8-9, 2025. The formal program runs from late afternoon on April 8th to the evening of April 9th. We also coordinate optional sightseeing and touring options on April 10th that are quickly becoming family favorites.

    This industrywide advocacy event attracts hundreds of roofing professionals annually and we need your help in growing our voice in Washington. Recent years’ advocacy efforts have:

    • Increased funding for Perkins CTE state grants by more than $100 million
    • Prevented historic tax increases while building support for permanent solutions for the industry
    • Progressed reforms to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act
    • Ensured the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act included a strong buildings component
    • Ushered major provisions of the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, legislation to promote energy efficiency in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings into law.
    • Passed into law the Construction Consensus Procurement Improvement Act, legislation to prohibit the use of reverse auctions for construction services procured by the federal government.
    • Strengthened relationships with key decision makers in the federal government.
