Foreman Leadership Training is a program focusing on communication and leadership skills for field leaders. The roofing industry is filled with foremen and superintendents who are incredibly adept at expertly installing roof systems and who were promoted because of their reliability and expertise; however, these individuals often do not possess leadership and communication skills equal to the task of effectively leading crews. These programs introduce the concept that leadership and communication—and not only management—are tools needed to be a truly successful field manager. Several activities help participants practice tools to become effective crew leaders.

Both courses use discussion, activities, personality profiles, and engaging examples to demonstrate to foremen (and other field leaders) that focusing on leadership will increase their crew members’ loyalty, efficiency, and overall productivity.

Course outcomes, Level 1

Focus is on the dynamics of leadership, starting with self-awareness, and demonstrating how foremen can affect their crews toward positive and negative results.

After participating in this course participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the differences between management and leadership.
  • Identify obstacles of their communication styles.
  • Discover and leverage their personality strengths and challenges.
  • Identify effective methods to interact with people, specifically, in difficult conversations.
